Efforts to improve the quality of life for residents of Anchorage have been a top priority, with a range of initiatives and investments aimed at enhancing community well-being. Among them, the Assembly passed significant investments in snow hauling and plowing, a Fish Creek daylighting study, and support for the Eklutna River restoration.
In addition, the municipality has launched a community-supported Assembly Equity Committee and created a Safe Routes to Schools Working Group in partnership with Anchorage School District. Efforts to support education have included funding an Anchorage School District budget study in light of the current state education funding crisis.
The municipality has also taken steps to support its most vulnerable residents, including launching Anchorage Recovery, a report of federal pandemic relief funds, increasing annual funding for the Anchorage Senior Activity Center, and funding grants for early education and child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence prevention programs through the alcohol tax.
Other initiatives have focused on ensuring efficient distribution of alcohol tax funds through a strategic planning process and providing support for organizations seeking alcohol tax grants. The municipality has also furthered the process for creating new cemeteries in Eagle River and Girdwood and assisted constituents and community councils in navigating neighborhood issues.
I have kept a laser focus, working with my colleagues, to implement initiatives to streamline government processes and support neighborhood issues demonstrate a commitment to responsive and effective governance that puts the needs of Anchorage residents first. Together, these policies represent a vision for a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous Anchorage that benefits all its residents. I am proud of my work with the Assembly to ensure we continue taking important steps to ensure that we all have access to safe, healthy, and thriving communities.
